What is Karina reading on her Canada trip?

Karina has been spending some of her time in Canada with a book in hand.

As Aespa continues its fourth world tour, the group has been touring North America since September. Between concerts, the singer has shared snapshots of her time offstage on Instagram, including visits to museums and galleries.

On Sept. 16, she posted a series of photos from Toronto with the caption, “Collecting beauty.” In several of the photos, she is holding a fairly thick book at a library and near a pier.

So, what was she reading?

It was "Project Hail Mary," the 2021 science-fiction novel by Andy Weir, the author of "The Martian."

The story follows Ryland Grace, a former science teacher and biologist who wakes up aboard a spacecraft with no memory of who he is or why he is there. As his memories gradually return, he learns that he has been sent on a last-chance mission to save Earth from an extinction-level threat.

The book was adapted into a film starring Ryan Gosling that was released in March.

In Korea, the movie’s release also sent readers back to the novel. According to Yes24, one of Korea’s largest online book retailers, "Project Hail Mary" ranked at the top of its bestseller list for the first half of 2026. Sales of the book also rose about 58-fold from the same period a year earlier following the film’s release.

For Karina, the book appears to be part of a longer-running habit. She has become known among fans for bringing books along on her travels, occasionally giving followers a glimpse of what she is reading between performances and trips.
